Dungy to return in 2008

Dungy's future has also has been the subject of speculation since his son transferred from an Indiana high school to one in Florida, where his family spends the off-season. But Dungy dispelled the rumours of his departure at an afternoon news conference. "I love this franchise," Dungy said. "I would not have come back if I didn't have the support of my wife and children." It is the third straight year Dungy considered retirement. Just 11 months removed from becoming the first black coach to win a Super Bowl, Dungy had said his decision would be based entirely on what was best for his family. Polian and Colts owner Jim Irsay also said a transition plan has been put into place in which Jim Caldwell would eventually succeed Dungy as coach. Caldwell, who was the club's assistant head coach, was named associate head coach on Monday.
